GALVESTON FISHING REPORT 3-28-16

 I hope all of you had a happy Easter and great Spring Break. Even though the weather didn't cooperate too well with us as far as fishing is concerned, we still had some great trips & we had lots of fun. Galveston Bay fishing can be a bit inconsistent for bay outings during the Spring time. This is because the wind & rain seem to be a weekly occurrence. Like I always say in my Galveston Bay fishing reports, "Give us good weather & we can give you good fishing!" Now we still had some great trips, especially at the jetties. The north & south jetties have been producing limits of sheephead, redfish & drum. The jetties can be a great alternative this time of the year. As the weather settles down & the water warms up, the speckled trout will be more consistent. I look for a really good trout & redfish year this year. We had a mild winter & the rains we have been getting should school the specks up in certain areas of the bays. We are still using live shrimp under a MidCoast cork for our bay outings & live shrimp with a slip weight at the jetties. The key for fishing the jetties is getting close to the rocks & using the proper size weight according to the current. If you can't get close to the rocks, try a heavier weight & fish straight down to avoid getting hung up. When fishing is tough in the bays searching for specks, try to find the cleanest water & pop those corks. I want to thank all our clients that went out with us over Spring Break & this past week. Galveston Fishing Report 3-7-16

Galveston Fishing Report  On Friday my brother Capt. Steven took out a real good customer of ours Mark Marvin and his 2 friends Randy & Isreal. Mark has gone out with me & Steven on multiply occasions over the past couple of years. Needless to say he has had some excellent outings. Steven said they were the 1st boat to head out and at the 1st spot, they started catching some specks. All 3 of them were catching some trout & the action was good. They were catching some good keeper trout along with some throw backs. After a couple of hours of fishing, that spot got a bit crowded and Steven made a move to another area. After trying 2 more spots and trying to catch some redfish, they decided to head in. The redfish weren't cooperating on this day. Again Mark had another great day on the water and Randy & Isreal really enjoyed it too. They ended up boxing 24 nice trout. They were using live shrimp under some MidCoast corks. Drifting open areas worked best.
 This week looks questionably for fishing. Some thunderstorms are forecasted for Tuesday & Wednesday. The wind forecast is not favorable either. Hopefully we can get out by Thursday or Friday. I will keep you informed. Well until next time, see you on the water.

Galveston Bay Fishing Report 2-2-16

Galveston Bay Fishing Report:  On Saturday my brother Steven took Kyle & Doc out. At the 1st spot Kyle & Doc stated catching some trout. They had to throw back some undersized one's but they ended up keeping 15 trout. They also had fun catching some redfish and a huge sheephead. Steven said they had a great time on the water. On Tuesday I took James & David out and they really had one of those days that anglers dream about. For the 1st couple of hours they were catching trout after trout. We had 5 specks that were over 21 inches. We left the trout biting after their 20 fish limit and went searching for some redfish. It took awhile, but James finally hooked into a 26 inch red and then after missing a few fish he caught a 27 inch red. After about 30 minute David got into the action catching a 29 inch red. After a couple more bites, we decided to headed in. On both trips we were using live shrimp under a cork. Seems like the more they would pop that cork, the more bites they would get. We are starting to get busy with calls & bookings, so if you would like to get out on the water please give us a call. Welcome Back

I everyone! I haven't posted on this blog since Jan 2012. A lot of reasons why, but the bottom line is I will be posting on here on a regular basis. I know there are a lot of other social media sites now days and I post on them too, but if you want up to date fishing reports for the Galveston Bay area then you can follow this blog. I will be posting Galveston Bay fishing reports, pictures & videos on here. I am also in the process of hosting a video & eventually a TV show. I will post some 30-40 minute long shows with some of my clients & sponsors. That is in the works, but as far as fishing I will be posting from now on. I want to thank all of you in advance for following this blog & all the support & good words I get from my readers. I hope you enjoy all the post. As far as a fishing report right now, we are going to begin out Spring time fishing. During March & April we start our Spring Break trips. We offer jetty trips for anglers that want that non stop action. We target redfish, drum & sheephead. We also offer our trout & redfish bay trips too, with the weather changes we just want to give our customers a good chance to catch lots of fish. If the weather cooperates trout fishing can be really good in March & April and the redfish, drum & sheephead can be abundant at the jetties. My brother and I took his sons Joshua & Joseph out this past Saturday for a quick trip before we get really busy. The weather was great and the fishing was even better. They had a great time on the water. At the 1st spot we fished they caught lots of speckled trout. Between the 2 of them they caught over 25 trout. They were catching lots of specks between 14 & 15 inches, which we released. After the trout bite slowed, we went looking for some redfish. We fished a favorite redfish spot and they caught about 8 total reds with 2 of them being keepers. They also caught some sheephead & a few small drum. On the way back to the dock we decided to fish for trout again and they caught another 6-7 trout. It was a great day on the water with family! We were using live shrimp under a cork. Fishing Report and More 1-5-12

It's hard to believe that it is already 2012. My brother and I want to thank everyone that booked a trip with us in 2011. We hard some great trips and caught alot of fish. I keep hearing that the fish population in the Galveston Bays are down, yet year after year we keep catching more and more trout and reds. I'm looking forward towards another great and productive year in 2012. I haven't posted a fishing report lately because I had lower unit issues. It took longer than expected to get it replaced. I did get a few trips in before the new year with mixed results. The morning bite was real slow for us. The afternoon bite was much better, the trout seemed to be feeding when the water warmed up. I have been fishing up north, although West Bay has produced some good trout and reds. Using soft plastics and live shrimp under a cork has worked best. I will be sharing a booth with some other guides at Reliant starting on Friday and ending on next Sunday the 14th. If you get a chance come by and visit with us. I do have some openings for the next couple of weeks and we are running a winter time fishing special so give us a call if you want to get out and catch some fish! Galveston Bay Fishing Report 6-20-11

Well it has been awhile since I have posted anything on this blog. Sorry about that, for awhile I couldn't sign in to my account. My computer needed some work done and blogger made some changes that caused me to not be able to log in. Alls well now. As for fishing ... well it's been more about the winds than fishing. June is almost over and we are still experiencing 20 mph plus winds!  I am use to some winds in March & April, but all of May and now into June. I have been fishing the Galveston Bay Complex for over 25 yrs. and I personally don't remember such a windy year. The wind has had such a bad affect on our bay system and it makes fishing really though. Earlier this week we were able to get out and catch some quality trout early in the morning. I am very impressed with the size of the speckled trout we are catching. The numbers are there when we have had quality weather, but the wind has caused us to stay near the shorelines and fish protected areas. There are some good fish out there in our bays especially around the mid bay reefs, but we can't fish them on a consistent basis. Good news is it can only get better! We are suppose to get some rain this week and the winds are going to lay down. (HOPEFULLY) I look forward to the change in weather and being able to fish instead of cancelling and rescheduling so many trips. I have some customers that have rescheduled 2-4 times. I want to thank all of you that have been patient. Well hopefully my next report will be full of good news and great reports. Here are some pictures of some of our recent trips. Spring Winds In Full Force

In one of my earlier blogs I stated that we had a great week of weather and that the usual spring winds weren't that bad. Well mother nature sure has made up for that! It has been an extremely windy month of April and the past 2 weeks have been the worse. This past week we have had 20 mph plus winds almost every day. I have only ventured out 4 days during this period and we did catch some fish, but it was really bumpy out there. I'm a fishing guide that would rather be safe and try to reschedule a trip, than going out on every trip regardless of the weather conditions. I don't like to miss out on my scheduled trips, but is it really worth all the hassle? Safety and catching fish are my main concerns for my customers. I'm not trying to tell other guides how to run their business, but I do question how some guides will put your safety in jeopardy or just take your money for a fishing trip that they know you are not going to enjoy. Sure there are some days when we can get out there on windy days and catch some nice fish. I'm sure we all have had those days, but they are not that common. Most of the time when we have 20 mph plus windy days, the fishing all over suffers. What about protected shore lines? Yes they can be your best chance to catch fish and that is where I would go, but the fish have to be there for that to be successful. Not only are we getting these very windy days, we are in a serious drought. The schools of fish are really spread out right now. The bays are very salty and fish are everywhere. The concentrated schools of fish that we are usually on this time of the year just aren't there this year yet. Now all this being said as soon as these winds lay and we get some rain, things will change. I'm looking forward to that day! Well be safe out there and good luck fishing.
